What sparked your interest in financial planning? What fuels you every day in your work?
I started my career working in an office for another Financial Advisor at the beginning of the Great Recession. I still recall the fear in the phone calls and conversations had in those early days not knowing what the next eighteen months would hold. Yes, the conversations were about the financial markets, economic instability and how to manage the risks but also about asset allocation, diversification and rebalancing. What I didn’t recognize until years later was the “magic” in the phone calls was also reminding the client of the financial plan and the work that was done in advance of those events to help weather the storm. The financial planning process helped the Advisors establish trusted relationships to help guide clients through those initial dark days and out the other side.
How do you feel you help to create impact for clients?
People say that I am a great communicator and very good at explaining complicated topics in simple ways that make sense to them. Topics surrounding money can be emotional. It can be challenging to make decisions or understand what options are available, especially when there are many details that seem so important, if one doesn’t know or understand how or why they fit into the picture. Being able to talk through a client’s goals and priorities in an open and transparent manner is helpful when trying to navigate a client’s options and explaining why certain decisions may make more sense for them.
What do you enjoy most about working at Modera?
I re-joined Modera after 10 years of working in other parts of the financial services world. A lot has changed in 10 years, but the Modera culture and family has not. It’s been nice to come back to a team that I think is made up of some of the smartest, kindest, and most genuine people in this business!
How do you do good in your community?
Financial literacy is foundational to becoming financially independent. It empowers someone to make informed choices, navigate financial landscapes and secure their future well-being. Nicole is a staple at a few annual career fairs for high school students educating about both careers in financial services and how it’s never too soon to set some money aside for a rainy day.
