When you’re not working you’re…?

Taking care of my family and cooking. I spend a bit of time going to farmers markets and shopping locally to buy fresh ingredients that are in season.  That inspires my creativity in the kitchen because everyone is happy when given great food.

How do you do good in your community?

I am a member of the Junior League of Washington, which is an organization for women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. I have participated in the Little Black Dress Initiative a few times and helped to raise money for emergency relief grants for local charities experiencing financial hardships.

What’s a destination in the world that you aspire to visit?

Peru. I saw a photo of Machu Picchu when I was younger, and it inspired me to start learning Spanish. Aji de gallina (hen stew) is my favorite dish but closely followed by arroz con pollo (chicken and rice) and papas a la huancaina (potatoes with cream sauce). I have no willpower when it comes to alfajores (dulce de leche cookies) and chicha morada (purple corn beverage).

How do you caffeinate?

Decaf is generally my first choice, so I select caffeinated options sporadically but passionately. During warmer months my drink of choice is a decaf cold brew and I drink Americanos in colder months. I lived in Japan for a few years so green tea is always nice.
