What do you value most in your client relationships?
I love hearing people share their stories. Uncovering someone’s “why” is one of my goals. Another quality we exhibit is maintaining a long-term perspective. Human nature is not geared this way but it is one of the most important ingredients for successful investing. I like the adage “trust the process”. I try to explain complex things in simple terms and ensure clients feel like they can make a well informed decision.
What sparked your interest in financial planning? What fuels you every day in your work?
I love talking to people (my high school teachers would all agree). After graduation, I started working at Fidelity investments and got exposed to various career paths. I would spend nights reading white papers and tracking fund performance (with sports on in the background). More recently though, the evolving field of behavioral finance has peaked my interest and I’ve been reading Morgan Housel books and listening to a variety of podcasts. I’ve had many wonderful mentors that have helped me excel and Im very thankful for the culture at Modera that fosters this.
What do you enjoy most about working at Modera?
That’s easy- my coworkers. Everyday I get to work with some of the smartest, hardest-working, passionate people. It’s fun collaborating with everyone so I’m excited to come to work every day. It’s an amazing team that Im thankful to be a part of.
When you retire you’re going to…?
My dad would always say “carpe diem”. You should not wait for retirement to live your dreams. I have not given this a lot of thought yet because I truly enjoy my job. Even when that time comes, some things won’t change. Things like spending time with family over a home-cooked meal, cheering for your favorite sports team, or just taking a nap on a rainy day.
