What do you value most in your client relationships?
The honor of being a part of important decisions and working with clients through a multitude of life events both expected and unexpected.
What sparked your interest in financial planning? What fuels you every day in your work?
My father changed careers to become a financial advisor while I was in high school. This was a monumental change for me as I moved among three different high schools to support his job relocation. Ever since learning about how he helped clients, I knew this could be a career for me. The positive impact I can make in my clients’ lives is what motivates me every day.
How do you feel you help to create impact for clients?
First and foremost is to be a good listener, then always checking for understanding. Once I have the information I need from the client and understand what is most important to them, I can help them address their most pressing needs and concerns. I can think of no greater impact than helping clients toward having some peace of mind knowing and confidence they are on track to meet their goals with a dedicated fiduciary at their side.
What do you feel is a strength that you have?
I believe I have a strength in explaining financial planning and investment concepts in a way that clients can understand, avoiding financial jargon and then checking for understanding.
What do you enjoy most about working at Modera?
The value of joining well-rounded organization like Modera provides me with more diverse perspectives and discussions of best practices that I can use to improve the work I do for clients. Working among a group of colleagues with a singular purpose of serving our clients allows us to focus on doing our best work.
When you retire you’re going to…?
My passion for the outdoors will mean traveling the country and beyond to immerse myself in the natural world. I want to experience new environments with more time to really get to know a place instead of feeling like a tourist just passing through for a short period of time.
Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
I grew up in small towns in Ohio. After college, my love for the mountains took me to Colorado for a decade. I currently live in northern Virginia with my wife and college age children.
