When you’re not working you’re…?

When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my lovely wife and our three dogs, two of which I have trained for pheasant hunting. I enjoy hiking in the Rocky Mountains and trout fishing Colorado’s smaller rivers and creeks. Also, I love playing lead guitar in a local rock band.

What’s the best career advice you ever got?

When I was a senior in college, I was talking with my best friend’s grandfather who gave me some good advice. He told me to buy land; as he put it, “The last time I checked, they are not making any more of it.” As related to a career path and choosing a company, he told me to select the company whose people I like, admire and respect. People with good ethics, that work hard and play hard and who are always willing to lend a hand. I feel that I have found this at Modera.

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

I grew up outside of Helena, Arkansas in the middle of delta farmland, south of Memphis TN and very close the “Crossroads” where Robert Johnson (blues legend) sold his soul to the devil. I have lived in Denver, Colorado for several years and currently reside there. After many trips to North Carolina, my wife and I are considering relocating to Ashville, North Carolina. We are big fans of the Biltmore and kayaking on the Nantahala River.

How do you caffeinate?

Double espresso, medium dry cappuccino. I make this every morning before work to start my day.
About a year ago, I started untraditionally roasting my own green coffee beans using white oak and cherry woods. The results have been spectacular. Great flavor and always fresh.
