What sparked your interest in financial planning? What fuels you every day in your work?
I come from a family of engineers so I’ve long felt that my future would involve crunching numbers or solving problems. At the age of 15, my parents introduced me to the stock market and allowed me to invest my first paycheck. While my return on investment was small, the impression it left on me was not. I quickly realized the importance and value of saving and investing.
As a student majoring in finance at the University of Georgia during the 2008 stock market crash, I learned and studied all about the events that led to the financial crisis. I did an internship in Atlanta with a firm that focused on investment and insurance strategies which opened my eyes to the myriad of ways to approach financial planning. After working in the banking system and managing debt receivables for a couple of years, those jobs brought me full circle to my original goal – wanting to help people with their financial goals.
What do you feel is a strength that you have?
I believe my biggest strength is my attention to detail. I enjoy working on complex projects, learning new systems, creating and detailing processes, and analyzing data. Our industry is constantly evolving, which allows me to find opportunities to collaborate with the great team at Modera to make our organization better.
When you retire you’re going to…?
Continue living my best life! My bucket list gets longer by the day. But why wait until retirement? I hope to continue traveling, seeing family and friends, exploring the great outdoors, staying active in sports (especially snow skiing), gardening, seeing bands at different music venues across the U.S., and doing lots and lots of puzzles!
Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Marietta, GA in an area north of Atlanta called East Cobb. Thanks to the HOPE Scholarship, I stayed close to home and attended college in-state (Go Dawgs!) I moved to Asheville, NC in 2014 with my husband to live in beautiful Western North Carolina. We now reside east of Asheville in Fairview, with mountain views and an abundance of land. It’s a magical place to raise our 3 children and larger than life Great Pyrenees, Banjo!
