What do you value most in your client relationships?
I value that clients place their trust in me to help them navigate life transitions and shape their financial future. It is a responsibility that I take seriously and strive to honor with hard work and smart advice.
What sparked your interest in financial planning? What fuels you every day in your work?
Having been in the industry for years, I have worked in and managed a variety of wealth management platforms. In the beginning of my career, financial planning was less common than today. Advisors and clients were focused almost solely on investing. While investing is important, it is just a piece of the puzzle. Comprehensive financial planning like we do at Modera takes a holistic approach, looking beyond investing to understand and address other areas of risk that can prevent a desired outcome. My experience is that this approach leads to better client outcomes.
How do you feel you help to create impact for clients?
What we do at Modera Wealth is hard for a client to replicate on their own. Not only the resources and expertise, but our understanding of the obvious and unknown risks they face. Once a new client comes aboard and we are able to develop and review their initial plan, it is rewarding to see the client’s reaction. Whether the plan identified and addressed issues of concern, or it confirmed the client is on a positive path, the comprehensive approach tends to boost the client’s confidence and gives them the peace of mind to pursue the life they desire. The impactful is rewarding for all.
What do you feel is a strength that you have?
I believe clients know I truly want what is in their best interest. Over time that builds trust and allows me to better serve them.
What do you enjoy most about working at Modera?
Helping clients be successful. At the end of the day, that is why all of us at Modera Wealth go to work every day.
How do you do good in your community?
I’ve been active in the Sandhills community over the years from leading my son’s Cub Scout Den to serving on boards of local non-profits. I currently am a member of the Southern Pines Rotary Club and serve as Treasurer and a member of the Stewardship and Foundation committees at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church.
When you retire you’re going to…?
…do more of the things I do today. I tell my clients that are approaching retirement to not wait until they retire to do the things they love – like travel, visiting family or playing golf. Life is too unpredictable. I ‘ve made a concerted effort in recent years to take my own advice and make more room for these activities in my life.
Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Henderson, NC which will always be home. My career (and fate) brought me to Pinehurst where my family has lived for the last 25 years. I’ve been fortunately to travel both domestically and abroad and can’t find a reason to leave here. It is a special place.
