When you’re not working you’re…?
Painting in my home studio. I love to create art in many forms as a hobby. However, painting in particular has become my favorite way of expressing my creative energy. I am particularly fond of watercolor, ink and acrylic mediums. When I am not painting, I am spending time with my husband, my young adult children when they are home, and my dogs.
What’s the best career advice you ever got?
Never lodge a complaint without offering a solution. A bit of advice I received from a mentor many years ago and it has stuck with me. It is not uncommon to find aspects of a job or a project to be less than appealing from time to time. While it is important to recognize an issue, it is also equally, if not more, important to then brainstorm ways to resolve the issue and implement positive change. It is a life lesson really and one I try to apply in many aspects of my life.
How do you do good in your community?
There are lots of opportunities to help in Charlotte and my family is always willing to join a cause. But the primary ways we “do good” are running food and clothing drives. Every Thanksgiving morning at our neighborhood “Gobble Wobble Fun Run” , my family collects non-perishable food for the high school food pantry. We also collect blankets and winter wear for our homeless community throughout the cold weather months and help distribute them through local agencies.
What’s a destination in the world that you aspire to visit?
I would like to travel around the Adriatic Sea and visit all the highlights and lesser known coastal towns of Croatia and Italy.
